Our attention spans have shrunk over the last half century. Consider Michael Snow’s “Wavelength” (1967), a rigorous 45-minute film made by the Canadian artist that stands as a monument of experimental cinema. Snow understood what he was up against: In 2003 he made a video called “WVLNT: WAVELENGTH for Those Who Don’t Have the Time: Originally 45 Minutes, Now 15!” It wasn’t merely a joke or a concession. Knowing that people were choosing to watch his film digitally sped-up, Snow used the occasion to create a brand-new work, superimposing 15-minute segments of the original onto one another like gauzy layers of celluloid film. Ron DeSantis is coming to New York for a private presidential campaign fundraiser that's set to be hosted by at least four Wall Street executives, including one with past ties to a firm backed by liberal billionaire George Soros, a frequent target of DeSantis and other Republicans. The event is scheduled to take place June 29 at the swanky Yale Club, according to a copy of an invitation seen by CNBC. It will be one of DeSantis' first fundraisers in the Big Apple since he officially launched his campaign for president last month. Shortly after publication of this story, Ardire called CNBC to say that he was added to the gathering's host list by "mistake." DeSantis is still governor of Florida and GoldenTree has an office in West Palm Beach, Fla.

An oil painting found in an upstate New York shed covered in bird droppings was discovered to be a rare piece of art. The work was identified as a live study by famed painter Anthony van Dyck dating back to the 17th century. The painting is expected to sell for between $2 million to $3 million, Sotheby's said. The sketch, which is believed to date back to between 1615 and 1618, was a study for Van Dyck's painting, "Saint Jerome with an Angel." Roberts, who bought the piece for $600, previously described his collection as "an orphanage for lost art that had suffered from neglect."

KINDERHOOK, N.Y.—Golden Harvest Farms has grown from a small apple-growing operation when Doug Grout’s grandfather opened it after World War II, to a multipronged business that includes a retail stand, cider press, distillery, tasting room and barbecue restaurant. But Mr. Grout said he sees a cloudier future for the business due to new state regulations that will require him to increasingly pay more overtime to the farmworkers who pick his apples in the coming years, raising one of his primary costs.
